Meet Mary Emily

After a freak accident (*TPJ) left me unable to write, I began painting as rehab for my injured hand. Although I still have difficulty holding a pen, holding a paintbrush has become second nature. After a few years painting any and everything, I decided I would only paint things that brought me joy...landscapes (And florals b/c what southern lady doesn’t like a flower?). As a child I remember being in awe of the landscape of my home state. To the north, we had "mountains" that would turn into breathtaking pastoral scenes that seemed to meld into the sandy white beaches of the gulf coast. All of these scenes continue to make my heart sing. As a child I fell in love with these places and as an adult I appreciate them even more. I now live in Rome, Georgia with my husband, three kids, our two dogs, and a cat; a full, happy house that constantly inspires and grounds me.

My work is mixed media that leans more abstract with a splash of impressionism. A combination of heavy bodied acrylics, oil pastels, pencil, modeling paste, and vintage papers create interest and depth in every piece. I want each piece to feel like its familiar with out being overly obvious and if you take a close look you will see that each piece has vintage sewing patterns in the background. This is done to honor my parents, both of whom worked in the textile industry. They gave me a love for color, texture, and all things old and I am forever thankful.

With Love, Mary Emily Galysh
